Alone at a Party
I dressed up for this. Got out of my pajamas. Even put makeup on. Every year, around this time, I get invited to a party. Sometimes there are people whose name I’ve known for years but never really knew. Sometimes there are people who I used to know but are now strangers. Sometimes, I even enjoy myself. But there’s always this moment when I look around at the room, warm and cozy with sparkling lights from the Christmas tree, the faint smell of butter and cream, and I wonder why I am here.
This capsule contains 3 surprise books, 1 of which is a poetry book. They were all written in different genres and different decades, but all three are perfect to read when you’re feeling alone at a party.
